I was 26/27, maybe 15lbs above healthy range, and have always had 28 day cycles, with positive OPK at cd 16. No cysts, I do get the hair on my chin and breasts, and I had a luetal phase of 10 days. The RE said I was borderline PCOS. I ended up getting pregnant naturally 72hrs after the HSG showed my tubes were clear. Baby is now 17 months, and we tried for a few months over the summer for number two. I am ovulating on day 21 of a day 28 cycle. The midwife prescribed metformin, and my blood sugar levels are fine. Still do not have a PCOS diagnosis. It made me very sick, so I stopped taking it, and focused on losing weight. I'm down 15lbs, and the plan is to try to start metformin again, but with a lowered dose. The midwife started me out at 1500mg, and I'm going to work my way up to that. My goal is to lose another 15-20lbs over the holidays (wish me luck) and stat trying in January. I'm 29 now.

I've also seen some good things re myo inositol, seems similar to metformin

Not out of the sticks yet by any measure, but at least I feel I know what the issue is, and as a bonus I also dropped 6 pounds in 3 weeks without any effort...

I think my takeaway lesson is that you should never stop and take "unexplained" for an answer. Keep testing and researching, your problem might have a different solution than metformin. Go further and bend the rules if you need to.

Purely anecdotal here, but I didn't ovulate regularly and PCOS was suspected (I had the pearl necklace issue but nothing else was out of whack, besides the lack of ovulation). My husband also had severe MFI and we were told to do IVF/ICSI. We declined and didn't pursue any more fertility treatments or try to get pregnant on our own. In order to regulate my cycle, my doctor put me on Metformin and I ended up having a surprise pregnancy probably a year later. Nothing else had changed except the addition of Metformin, so I'll always wonder if that's what did it (who knows what the deal was with my husband's sperm?).

I do get an upset stomach for the first days I go back on Met, and then it's fine after that.

Man I tried metformin and it made me so so sick! I wasn't even eating sugary stuff either!
