What do you mean by "the soccer"? A class or a competitive league? Are you worried that your kid is a beta?

He's young. Yes, his behavior is normal. Just lay off the sports for now, and wait and see where his interests take him when he's older.

Yes, this. DD did some soccer at 3-4 and was sort of lukewarm on it. But a like a third of the kids out there at any one time were: (1) running away, (2) not listening to the coach, (3) refusing to leave the sidelines w/ family, (4) aimlessly running around. Your kid is pretty typical!

OP, my just turned 4yo hasn't taken to sports yet either. He had ONE soccer class where he followed directions and seemed motivated -- after that, zero. Says he's "tired" like yours. The only thing I've found that he really loves is swimming. We do a swim lesson once a week and will continue through the winter. Just keep trying things, re-visit soccer at a later date etc. - don't push too hard at this age.

My son never liked sports that involved any type of ball. He fences and he loves it. Relax. He is 4 yrs old.

My son is 24 and hated group sports. No big deal. He's a great piano player, skateboards, goes swimming, will play basketball in the driveway, ride a bike, loves to cook, loves science, etc. Has always had friends.

It's really not a big deal.

I hope my son is like yours. My DH and I both hate sports. We dread having an athletic child!

My dh is grateful his parents divorced when he was 6 and he lived with his father. His mother is a sports nut who made all her daughters do sports....which was fine, they liked it. DH loathes sport. Hates them! He says if his mom had stayed he just couldn't imagine how miserable he would have been with her forcing him to do them. He is healthy and normal as a 40 yr...he even ended up joining the military when he was younger and did fine with the athletic requirements.

Stop making your poor child miserable!

He is still a super young age. He's only 4! DS never played soccer, t-ball or went to regular swim lessons when all the other kids were doing it. We offered every year and he refused. He played basketball a little while when he was around 8 but never loved it. He found other interests and has plenty of friends. He started karate when he was older and loves it.
