It baffles me how the service can continue to be so surly. I mean, I know service work sucks. But that a successful shop should continue to hire such unpleasant people over a period of years...I mean, either the workplace is toxic and that's why they're all so unpleasant, or they genuinely like each other and don't care how they come across to customers.

It's notable enough I have to assume it is a top-down issue. Well beyond "service work sucks" and I say that as someone who did service work and generally prefers a hands-off browsing experience and doesn't require a** kissing or pleasantries and just wants a touch of efficiency.

I live in the neighborhood. I went to LRF twice and was not impressed. Whomever likes their food can't cook. But, I am glad they have filled a couple of storefronts.

My husband walked into LRF to buy a pie and they refused to sell one to him because he hadn’t ordered on-line and selected a time to pick it up. I understand it was his error, but why not just sell him the pie since he was already there and explain the procedure for next time? The staff there lacks basic customer service skills. He bought a pie at Whole Foods instead, and there won’t be a next time for LRF.

I’ve also had terrible experiences with the staff both pre pandemic and during. Such a shame, the food is good and I love going next door to Politics and Prose. But I don’t like being made to feel like I should be honored to breathe the same air as the staff.

I don't get the hype for their breakfast burrito at all.

I've tried it twice and both times I was very disappointed. The potatoes are not crispy at all, and no bacon or sausage. For a $10 burrito it should at least come with meat. I don't know how so many people lose their s*it over soggy eggs and potatoes in a tortilla.

Also their hot sauce is just slightly spicier tabasco. No real flavor other than vinegar.

Bread Furst has great cookies, we esp like the oatmeal cookies with dried cherries and sea salt, so good!

I gave up on LRF due to staff vibe, felt uncomfortable and akward.

Agree. It is a really good sandwich. I also like their soba noodle salad. And cake (slices of sheet cake with icing. So good.)

In its early days, I'd written it off because ordering seemed chaotic and I didn't like their overdone baguettes. But their prepared foods, pantry items, and baked goods are more various than in the early days and there's a lot there that's really, really good. Yummy soups in their fridge. The flow for ordering and paying is much improved.

Thanks for this recommendation. I have a couple of friends that have also had unpleasant experiences at Little Red Fox. I thought maybe it was due to staff changes, but I’ve given them enough chances. I’ll definitely try Bread Furst.

LRF? In the parking lot behind, which it shares with Politics & Prose. Challenging at some busy times, but fairly easy to find a space at less-busy hours.
