oh FFS. Did you previously live at the intersection 7th and G streets? No? then stop acting like Brookdale might as well be Poolesville. I know the area well and if you're "driving all the time" then it's because you're unimaginative or just pregnant or something. I just checked WalkScore and if you're in Brookdale like it sounds from your description, you're no lower than 80 and potentially as high as 93.

OP--we will be moving to your neighborhood (at least I think it's the same one based on your description) in December. I grew up in CCMD but have lived in NYC for the last 15 years. I, too, am scared I'll hate it but the proximity to DC, the metro, commerce, etc in addition to the excellent schools were enough to convince me to take the plunge. I'm expecting my second next spring. Let's hang out!

Can you bike to work? I have a friend who lives in AU Park and bikes to work on Mass Ave (on the sidewalk). if you take a bike share bike you can always metro home. I just moved further from work and I thought I'd really miss walking to work but now I love biking in. That might help change your mood a bit.

You will settle into things, and be SO HAPPY you moved into a good public school district in MD where your kids can attend school for FREE with neighborhood friends. It will be worth it! In the mean time you are SO CLOSE to the city you can spend as much time as you want there to have fun and work! As a mom with kids who has made similar choices I know it isn't easy but well worth in during this particular time in your life. You can always move back to the city at a later point, but give it a chance. Also I agree with the folks who have said the grass always looks greener. I've heard from parents with older kids who live in DC and their kids have attended privates for 12 years and they've been schleping them across town to privates that they wish they would have moved to the close-in DC burbs and sent their kids to the better public schools.

Lovely. You couldn't pay me to live in that type of neighborhood, especially with kids.

+1 this is a dealbreaker, no amount of cool restaurants and bars could make up for this (and I live in the city)

I lost you at the part where you described your neighborhood as the suburbs.

That hasn't been the suburbs since approximately 1965.

That is such a nice neighborhood! I am a big city person, too (grew up in one in Europe and lived there most of my adult life). Now I live in AU Park, so I'm practically your neighbor. I have to agree with others, it could be much worse. I guess being in walking distance to Friendship Heights and Tenleytown satisfies my needs on most days. And you really don't have to drive or metro far to get to more urban areas.

We moved to the suburbs, and after two years realized it was a mistake. The trade offs weren't worth it, and it felt isolating.

We moved back to the city and haven't looked back since.

I hated our suburb too when I had 1 kids. After my 2nd was born and my oldest was in Kindergarten, I started to appreciate it more. When my 2nd hit K, I definitely appreciated and fully bought into suburban life.

That being said, I can't wait to move back to the city after my kids are done with high school

Can walk to metro, close to AU Park... you lost me at that. Your SFH was probably still over 800k (meaning you had lots of choices to be able to afford there) and you get proximity to DC. Rent your place out and move back to the city. You'll be posting with other complaints.
