I saw flights from both BWI and DCA for as low as $59 one way. And Southwest includes 2 bags free per ticket.

All three are short flights -- one hour to SYR; 1-1/4 hours for the other two.

I would try Miami or Ft. Lauderdale...lots of deals

I don't know if it's the cheapest, but we've chosen Ft. Lauderdale for quick getaways because it's a two-hour flight from National and we can always find fares for under $200 R/T. It's also a 15-20 minute cab ride from the airport to the beach, depending on traffic, where everything you need is walking distance or a cheap bus ride away. The beach is so long and wide that I don't think I've ever seen it overcrowded. If the beach is not necessarily your thing, you could check out Taylor Birch State Park for kayaking, biking, hiking and other activities for which they provide equipment. https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Hugh-Taylor-Birch

There are often good deals to Chicago and NYC.

Skyscanner.com is another site where you can do a global search for cheap flights during a particular time period.

And Boston is a nice destination, but not cheap once you get there.

Canada gets you with international taxes. Same with Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica - nearly anywhere you can fly non-stop from DCA/BWI.

New Orleans is 2 hours; and I'd agree with Boston, Providence. All nice!

Montreal is also amazing. Though I also hear that Toronto is pretty awesome these days too.
