This is quite different from any other elementary school in the city.

For starters students would begin changing classes / having different teachers for different core subjects in early elementary (but not K).

Has anyone else read this yet?

No idea what JKLM means but I personally will NOT travel. Our kids got into Sela and I loved the model so I commuted. That lasted 3 days. By Wednesday, I was looking for a nearby school and by Friday, I pulled them out. I do not travel well.


JKLM = shorthand for upper Ward 3 DCPS elementary schools Janney, Key, Lafayette, Much or Mann

We travelled 30 minutes each way for a strong elementary school. My kids travel 50 minutes each way for middle and high school. Different families make different choices.

Who are you? How do you know everything about all these sites right away? It's creeping me out. And I mean that in a good way. How do you know so much?


I'm not creepy; I lead a boring life and have mad google skillz.

But really, everyone knows the DCI bulding - it's been home to many charters going back 10+ years. I live in Brightwood/Takoma and walk past the 2nd Street bldg with my dog. I used to contract in FBI bldg across street from Weschler's and went in to watch auctions a couple days a week. My company tried to buy that space 2 years ago.

The rest I googled.

Only 1 charter (Wash Latin in its first, temporary location) was sited in Ward 3.

The notion of charters in DC has always been to serve disadvantaged kids and most applications go to great lengths to say they will locate in Ward 7 or 8 (where most are) and they often wind up in 4 or 5 based on facility availability (or - according to charter critics - because they never really meant to serve poor kids in the first place).



PP's point is that there are no charters in Ward 3... nor any PK3.

Yes, although because of that reason, I plan to write against their app. My emotionally unstable daughter cannot be moved into a new school for 3rd grade next year. But, I'd hope that she'd be ready for a new school in 3 years, and basically she won't have a spot anymore because they are creating a ES that takes her sibling preference away.


I'm sure that the DCPCSB is going to be moved to deny high quality elementary school seats to the entire city because you may, or may not, get a good enough sibling preference draw.

3224 16th Street, NW PLEASE!!! I know that campus and love that space. I am definitely not going to some of these really far places. But 909 E Street NW is also fantastic since that's near the MS.
