Yes. My 11-year old has one on the bottom. He has had it 6 months zero problems. He doesn’t even notice it. He is keeping lower teeth from shifting over/maintaining space. My kids lose teeth on the late side so he still has quite a few baby teeth.
He has a palate expander on upper palate which he got at the same time and he can’t wait to get it off. 1 more month! He slurs his words a little with it and has a hard time with spaghetti or gooey cheese pizza.
Just curious... why did you wait until 11? Was his tooth just pulled at 11 or did you monitor the teeth and saw movement now? Thanks.
It was a baby tooth that fell out naturally in an atypical order so it will be there just a short time until others fall out/adult teeth emerge. It’s preventing other teeth shifting.
How many teeth has he lost?

Ours said the same and recommended a retainer instead. We are using the retainer at night with no issue. Since it is night only, there is very little opportunity for it to get lost.

Ours said the same and recommended a retainer instead. We are using the retainer at night with no issue. Since it is night only, there is very little opportunity for it to get lost.

I had a pulled second molar @ age 7 and had a space maintaner for several years as a kid. I don’t remember exactly how long. I never had braces, either.

My 9 year old has one. It recently came loose and was causing gum irritation. The dentist removed it and we took 2 weeks to let the tissue heal, then reapplied it.

Does anyone have experience with a pulled baby second molar? It's unclear if she needs a space maintainer for this but I'm thinking its better to have a removable one because of plaque accumulation. My DD just turned nine.

Which tooth is it saving space for? I like this idea for a back baby molar that we had to pull at age 7. Hold the space open until about age 12 or so. Several years seems like a long time to keep a fixed appliance in the mouth for a younger child.
