Your poor nanny. Hope you give her overtime.

DH and I work full time.

Don't you have dinner with the kids? Don't you spend time with them on the weekend? It sounds like you don't know how to take care of children at all! Do you have 27/7 nannies?

They eat dinner earlier than we do. Generally we eat dinner after they're in bed. We do spend time together on weekends. I do know HOW to take care of the children; I've just never gone on a vacation with them without bringing the nanny before. Our nanny works from 7:30 am to 6:30pm.

I bet OP is one of those people who has had nearly 24/7 help since the moment the first kid was born. Interacting with the children is done in highly limited doses, and anything mundane, dirty, and messy associated with children (feeding, changing, playing, putting to bed, bathing...) is done by the help. Changing a dirty diaper was never something she would sully her beautiful hands with. Children are nothing but a status symbol to her, and a frequently inconvenient one at that. Who knew children would be so loud, messy, and needy?!

Your kids sound normal...of course 2.5 ht dinners won't fly with them, of course they're going to play instead of layout in the pool.

You seriously don't know your kids.

Stick to dutch wonderland next time

Try being the only one with your kids 24/7 but forever. I'll let that sink in for a minute OP.

WTH are you prattling on about??? Who brings "help" on their family vacation???

We have four kids, and we've never brought a sitter. We've traveled domestically and internationally with the kids. It's not rocket science: feed them, entertain them, and throw them in bed when they are tired. Oh, and don't take them out for a leisurely 2.5 hour dinner.

Tip: feed them dinner before you head out to a restaurant that won't appeal to them (or bring food for them--fruit, yogurt, etc.), and bring something to entertain them. Don't plan to ignore them, and be prepared to eat quickly or bail if necessary. Our kids are fine in nice restaurants, but we always feed the younger two ahead of time just in case.

The only people I know who travel without help are the help.
