How can women who have suffered through so much to create human life be so cavalier about its destruction?

It's completely disingenuous and immoral to claim that human embryos aren't, well, human. How can someone who has experienced the enormous physical and emotional tolls of IVF deny that each embryo is precious?

We will donate our extra blastocysts to an adopting couple because it's the right thing to do for other families in need, as well as the new lives created by IVF.

We are in the same boat. DC1 was conceived via IVF and we were on the fence about going through it all to try to conceive another child using one of our three frozen embryos. Then, surprise! I got pregnant unexpectedly. We definitely will not be having anymore children after DC2 and I'm not sure if we will donate them. We will probably thaw them.

We have 8 pgs tested embryos on ice. Had we been lucky enough to have IVF work 4 years ago when we started we would have definitely been more than a one-child house. We resorted to donor eggs and I am currently pregnant and in my early 40's. I can't imagine doing this again, so I think that we really will be one and done.
We will pay for one additional year of storage, but after that I think they will go to science. I would prefer to donate them to another couple, but since we used DE I'm not sure what the options are.

I always assumed we would donate them to science, but after reading these posts I'm not sure anymore. Just thawing them sounds terrible...although ours are not tested, so we have no idea if they are viable.

The potential for life is all around you. No one is obligated to reproduce to make other people happy.

Not to mention some of us have quite a few frozen embryos. I have over 20. Can you imagine there being over 20 of my kids out there? Many of these kids would be in the DC area I assume. That would be messed up.

I have three and don't know if or when I'll be ready to try for me children. If I decide not to, I'll almost definitely donate them to be used by someone else (couple or single) because if IVF hadn't worked for me, my next step was donor eggs/embryos. It would be hypocritical of me to be eager to use someone else's and then deny someone the use of mine.

Same. A large part of me wants to try having a third using one of our frozen embryos. The fact that they are sitting there makes me more inclined to have a third than i probably would otherwise.

I understand what you are going through as I am in the same boat. I have a successful IVF and DD is now 8 months. She is so wonderful and when I think the frozen embryos and the potential they can be.. We are now leaning towards donating to other couples. Before DD, we thought of just thawing. I don't think any of these options are great, but they are very personal. Every time I imagine how the frozen embryos can be potentially as great as DD, I just sang imagine destroying then. I am sure they are posters who will jump right in and tell me the embryos are not babies, etc. I know that, but they could be. I'd rather make another couple happy than to destroy them.
