If this was allowed, many people would do this. Most people don't have thousands sitting around to pay off a car they bought on a credit card. Most people do not have the money to pay off their credit card each money.
Which is why many people finance a car. Why would you finance on a credit card for 18% interest when you can get a loan for well under 5%?

It makes sense because that fee would have to be subsidized by everyone else who is paying tuition/room and board. We pay by directly transferring money from our bank account (which they make easy to do). I'm sure they also take checks.
When you use a credit card, the business has to get that money somewhere else (higher price on the car,etc.).
