My DW is late 40's and looks great in a bikini. She's not competing with the teens and 20 something. She's also not wearing a thong. She's wearing something that looks good on her and makes her feel good.

If you haven't noticed, most people look like crap without clothes on. I say if you have the body confidence to wear a bikini go for it. Your "dh" is an ass.

There are different types of bikinis...like the sting type with tassels and stuff (the type your teen daughters might approve), and then there's bikinis that that don't floss your butt cheeks...
Maybe opt for the latter?

I had this thought too. Is he a "rule follower", self-conscious about what others think?

Do you give him attention? If my wife was putting on a bikini but not giving me attention, I might roll my eyes because she was putting on a show for others and couldn't be bothered with me.

I'm projecting here, so I won't be at all surprised if this has nothing at all to do with your situation.

Your husband's reaction was super rude. You should talk to him about it.
That being said, if the bathing suit does not look flattering on you, I think it would be the right thing for him to tell you in a more considerate and caring way.
