This is actually something I'm not thrilled with. There is very limited diversity in the teaching ranks. We have a lot of young white women teaching. I was complaining about this to my father (who teaches in a university department that sees a lot of elementary education majors), and he basically told me that it wasn't fair to hold the school accountable for the demographics of the profession.

The lower grades are more diverse. The upper grades are diverse in that they have decent splits of African American kids, Latino kids, and a small but not insignificant population of Asian kids of various extractions, but no white kids above first as far as I'm aware.

I agree that things get more complicated as kids get old. My operating theory right now is that by the time things get very complicated, she will be a member of the community, rather than some random white girl. I am not currently concerned about how other kids treat her, but I'm also not ignoring the possibility.

She does, and we reciprocate the invites, which are usually accepted.

Yes, but it took a while. The language barrier was more of an issue than SES or race because most of DD's friends are Latina and their moms are not confident English speakers. We don't get together often outside of school, but the few times that we have, it has been fun. DD's best friend's family invited us to their Easter celebration, which was really fun. I hope we are invited back next year.

Not so far that I've observed. The only thing that might be related is that because I work in an office during the week, I'm not around for parent socializing on the basketball court before dismissal at 3:30.

Yes, very happy. I see a little girl who loves going to school and loves her friends. Occasionally she gets frustrated because of a conflict with another kid, but I think most kids occasionally do not want to go to school. I know that I occasionally did not want to go to school either, despite loving school in general.
