We just left Montessori for similar reasons. The teacher was wonderful but the classroom didn't have enough energy and excitement to keep my kid excited about going to school. We switched to a typical preschool program with lots of color and songs and energy and she's so happy.

FWIW, my spouse is a Primary Montessori teacher and finds that boys are often not ready for the curriculum until closer to age 4. Girls tend to be ready around 3. It could be they just aren't quite there yet. Keep in mind that they may want more stimulating activities as they age, not less ones.

Outside of abuse or neglect almost none of our parenting decisions matter much in the long run.
