I really like Portia! I don't see it as trashy at all, it's a classic name that's under used I think.

But if you don't like it, you don't like it. What was the other name?

Nope, sorry. Don't give up!

Pretty much any other Shakespearean name is better. I like Imogen, but that's another hate it or love it name. Beatrice?

But I agree with PPs that you each should have veto power over names you truly hate.

For reasons of avoiding drama, we want to avoid asking our families for name feedback. So, what does DCUM think - good or not?

I don't like it- I think it sounds pretentious. Everyone has difference tastes though-- I like traditional English names or Irish/Scottish names.

Is the car company named after Portia? I never made that association before.

I do like Portia.

This!! If you don't like it, don't mane your girl that though.

+2
I realize Portia came first, but if I heard it out loud, I would think of the car first. It's an aggressively ugly name, classic or not. Does he like the Shakesperean reference? Does he like cars a lot and found an acceptable one to use? Mercedes is better, in that case.

Ramona Quimby had a doll named Chevrolet.
