"Actually, there is a way you can find out how your kids' scores compare to others in their school. I found a service that provided percentile scores for the Maryland PARCC. It was easy to use, though it is a bit expensive but I found a coupon that reduced the price (bonus!). In my opinion, it was worth it to get a meaningful understanding of my kids' actual achievement.

I looked up Arlington schools for another reason - to try to do an oranges-to-oranges comparison. My oranges are white kids, because John Boehner. (White, non-ESL, non-reduced lunch, non-disabled, non-homeless.) Yes, problems with that, but there are enough to report everywhere. I also did an average-of-averages across the different types of SOL tests, so this averages several different grades of math & english with (I think) one of social studies and one of science.

But it gives some idea what is typical of largely well-off kids.

This info was just releasedForget average. You can download from the VA SOL site the SOLS by district, every school, every grade and test (% passed, % advanced), as well as the past 2 years (for passed at least)

Now it is all out through the DOE. Our school went down more than up, but the decrease in number of students proficient was small.
