I had my Honda Civic prior for 16-years.

Routine maintaince/oil changes were all that was needed. I never had a single problem.

My dad's Pilot and my sister's Odyssesy were the same.

I would buy the mini van b/c you know the seller and they have maintained the car well. For families, minivans are super convenient for car pooling, road trips, etc. However, if you rarely need a minivan type car, then buy the sedan and rent a minivan when you need one.

It would be tough to find a Sedan with low mileage at that price range.

They're good to 225,000 - 300,000.

You just need 6 months to let all the kinks in a used vehicle show themselves. Then you're good to go.

minivan does drive like a car, but it feels much bigger in and around parking lots, and with parking spaces seeming to get smaller and smaller it makes around town hauling that much more of a pita...

We used to have a minivan and I do miss it from time to time... we now have a saturn Vue (08 with 70K miles) and a Ford C-max. so we down sized.

100K on a well maintained honda would not scare me...

fwiw, my mother still drives her late-90s Odyssey with 250k miles on long roadtrips. it is now officially a heap of junk and not worth the money spent on repairs but it was a fantastic car up until about the time it hit 200k. seriously, those things are solid.

We are looking at getting a Subaru Forester and spending a bit less than that ($2500-4000 range). The second generation Foresters (1998 to 2003) can easily hit 275K-300K miles if it has a good maintenance record.

That's basically 100k maintenance (minus wheel alignment). Assuming the seller has done proper oil changes - transmission and engine oil (no more than 5k between oil change) - sounds like the car is well maintained. 2009 Odyssey will give you another 100 k easy providing you continue to maintain according to the owner's manual.

By the way, minivan DOES drive like a regular car, not like a truck.

OP here. About 6 months ago, the owners replaced the timing belt, tires, brakes, and rotors, and aligned the wheels. It's in good condition except for some minor body stuff. It is also an EX, so while not luxurious it's a decent trim package.

Our current car is pretty ancient so for us this would actually be an upgrade. I'm still torn about getting a minivan in general, though.
