From the age of 5 my daughter was a dream then when she was 8 she turned moody & bossy and throwing herself on the floor crying, I didn't know it was prepuberty hormones at the time until shortly after turning 9 she started puberty. She was still a moody girl though, she calmed down a fair bit once her periods started at 11. She is 13 now and onlly gets mostly upset/frustrated when she is nearing her next period.

9 is a big shift in development. Look up the 9 year change.
It's the end of earthy childhood and so many changes

My 13 year old daughter is a moody mess. It's like living with a giant toddler.

Yep my 9yr old has PMS-y tantrums all the time and just lay on the floor and refuse to move or get up.

Does she have tantrums all the time or when she is nearing her period?.

I admit to being out of my depth with this. I was 15 when I started my period. And DD is 11 but looks 15, which is difficult, although she has so far handled it well. I mean, aside from the PMS-y toddler tantrums.

I have a very emotional 9yr old is it really puberty at this age?

One of my girls DD2 is 8 going on 14 trying to act grown up and DD1 is 10 going on five. A few months before DD1 hit puberty she became sassy, crying and no jokes and very serious. In a year or so DD2 will be the same. Why can't I have boys, haha.

It's hard for us parents but we have to remember what our puberty was like, it wasn't that long ago was it???.

Talking with other mothers of 4th/5th graders they say the same thing "HORMONES" it's very difficult for young girls to control all these new feelings and changes.

I don't know if childhood is any shorter now than it was. I'm 37 & started puberty when I was 9, my daughter is 10 and just last week we went bra shopping for the first time.

I'm just glad I am not a teacher being surrounded by a class of moody pmsing pubescent 10/11yr olds.

I would be more surprised if an 11yr old had not started having periods.

I can honestly say mine wasn't too bad. We had more problems when she was about fifteen wanting to hangout
with older people and trying to get away with wearing short skirts etc.
