If you think you'll be longer, wake up DC on those days.

OP here, actually DH doesn't turn the engine off for pumping gas.

Although it's not common, you realize this can set fire to your car right?

Your DH sounds like a total moron.

I dislike when he does it, esp with the kids in the car. I turn the car off before pumping gas. But if I try to suggest he turn the car off or make suggestions in other scenarios, he bristles/gets annoyed and carries on with how he is doing it.

Forgot to reply he's not a moron, just has his way of doing things. He's an involved, hands on and caring dad and a good person.

He's a moron. He does things wrong and refuses to accept that there are better, safer, LEGAL ways to do things.

Nope. Too hot with the car off, not safe with the car on. If you just had to walk up to the door, ok, but otherwise no.

Np. Leave him in charge of as little as possible. He's reckless and dangerous.

I would if you're gone for less than 5 minutesm but not in the current heat. But I'd seriously be timing myself.

In MD, a child under 8 can't be confined to a motor vehicle alone. I think DC has no specific limit and refers vaguely to minors not being left unsupervised.

Asleep, probably not because on the chance a busybody will wake him/her up.

Awake? and they wanted to stay in the car? Probably, or I would tell them to go play on the playground while I ran inside.

Gas pumps are shaded. And you can open windows.

Do you plan to leave the windows down? If not, someone would probably call the police, the director or smash your window out of concern for your kid in this heat.
