This. For one night, your mom's or a hotel. You just need to make the call whether saving the money on the hotel is worth the hassle factor of tomorrow's commute. That's a completely personal judgment call.
Hope the AC is a quick fix!

It's really easy to install a window unit. You set it in the window, pull the little screens, and plug it in.
But if lifting is an issue, get a portable unit, like PP suggested.

Since your DH is not home, get a portable unit. It's much easier to handle/install. YOu don't have to lift it to window.

That's true. They're so easy to install. Just stick it in the window. If it's just for a day or two, I wouldn't bother screwing it into the window frame unless the window is right above an area that sees a lot of foot traffic.

Yes, we can afford a hotel.
The thermostat is downstairs, which is reading 77. It is MUCH hotter upstairs. I don't know how much hotter but it's really very uncomfortable. Downstairs is just moderately uncomfortable. I would not be able to sleep upstairs like this.
Basement is currently being finished which I think may have something to do with why the AC isn't working, I have no idea really but no, that's not an option.
I don't need help with the 4 yo. Only mentioned that bc I know for some people, going to grandma's house would be like a little vacation where I could chill and she would be supervised. That is not the case here
Just got a call that the AC person now can't come until tonight.. I'M GETTING SO FRUSTRATED!!!
OP: I mean tomorrow night. This is infuriating!

this is true. it's only 77 because it takes time for your house to warm up and it will take time to cool later... much like your oven.

Do you have a handy neighbor? DH is great with troubleshooting these things and I know he'd help a neighbor.
Have you tried turning off your AC. Maybe the coils have frozen over. Once I didn't click the cover on my furnace on securely enough and the AC wouldn't kick on due to that. Have you changed the battery in your thermostat?

77 at 2pm will be well over 80 by the time things start to cool off. This happened to me last year, but I was 6 weeks post partum. I went to my mom's with the baby when I was sweating even in our normally very cold basement.
If you have fans and can maybe point them directly at the beds, tonight might be hot but doable.
But honestly, I'd look on Hotwire for a cheap hotel in your zip code and do that. If it's too expensive, head to your mom's and deal with the a longer commute.
