FCPS teacher here - very few aap kids are actually smarter. It's a mixed bag of "has pushy parents," works really hard (but is in no way brilliant), and developed early or was redshirted. Here and there a true genius - but it's rare.

How do we know you are the real FCPS teacher here?
It's more likely you're a sour grape parent whose dumb kids couldn't get in AAP.


Please tell me this was a troll. I have 2 kids in AAP, and one who is not. I am appalled that an adult would say this, calling another person's child dumb?

Why do you feel the need to try and discredit my post, on a thread that was just asking for people who had a good experience to speak up?

We knew very few people with kids at Wolftrap who were not happy. The one woman we knew who was really unhappy was furious because the school would not place her DD at Archer.


What the The question is do you love your school. If you read other posts- there are many people who *gasp* write that they didn't like a school that another poster said they loved. You make it sound like I posted this to spite you .. on an anonymous forum.

That was a really asinine thing to say about the quality of the teachers. I work with colleagues who have degrees from UVA, Temple, Georgetown, U of Michigan, Berkeley, and William and Mary. I teach elementary kids. There are dodo birds in every walk of life. Generalizations such as yours demonstrate a lack of critical thinking skills and an inability to rationally look at a situation.

Let's be honest here. Most FCPS teachers have degrees from second or third-tier universities and are not really equipped to recognize brilliance or the lack thereof. At many AAP centers, the sixth-grade students are already intellectually ahead of their teachers.

Not at all. We were far more interested in supplementing at home than engaging at any length with the teachers. They got to do their thing, to the best of their limited abilities, and we did ours.

Not our school but I've met over 10 parents who rave about Spring Hill. Not in our budget unfortunately.

My daughter is in a younger grade at Canterbury Woods but we know a bunch of older kids and I have no idea who is AAP and who is not. In addition, I have been so impressed by how the older students interact with the younger ones at Field Day, in the cafeteria, etc.
