I would post to the Chevy Chase listserv and the nanny forum here to see if there's a nanny who wants to pick up 5-10 hours a week taking your kids to school. Also, it's really not a bad walk and you can check the bus arrival times online when it's cold out and head out 2 minutes before the bus shows up.

You'll be fine with the bus. I've taken my son to school by bus for three years and we are always fine. You just need to have the right kind of winter clothes. Waterproof boots and a good warm coat for both of you.
