A while ago, someone on here recommended My Father's Dragon by Ruth STiles GAnnett. It's a trilogy. DS enjoyed it.

My son is really into Harry Potter all of a sudden. The Lloyd Alexander Book of Three series is a good one. (Book of Three, Magic Cauldron, etc.)

Thanks to the inexpensive Costco box sets, my 7 year old has been loving Roald Dahl and Beverly Cleary lately. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Henry Huggins series most of all. We read it out loud together and he reads some pages and we read some.

Ranger in Time series (about a time-traveling rescue dog)

Alvin Ho (very funny series about a second-grader with a lot of fears and quirks - there is a glossary in the back for various words/concepts in the books)

I also suggest taking a look at the website whatdowedoallday.com - she has a TON of reading lists for different age groups, interests (dragons, sports, etc.). I also like the website readbrightly.com for reading lists and book recommendations. Both sites also have semi-regular email newsletters that are terrific.

what a great rec on the whatdowedoallday.com website! The booklists she has posted are fantastic. thanks for posting, will be looking at readbrightly next.

Not the OP, but the PP. Thanks for this suggestion - we'll check those out!

Another thanks. School got kid into Captain Underpants and Diary of a Wimpy Kid and I'm tired the language. Ordered one.

My 8 yr old son has gotten into Beverly Cleary books this summer (after being obsessed with Big Nate and Wimpy Kid all year this is a really welcome change.)- Henry Huggins, Henry & Beezus, Ramona the Pest, etc. He also liked Zita the Space Girl (graphic novel, I think it is a trilogy.)
