Harris Teeter has a great salad bar, hot food bar and pizza & subs too.

This thread is such a reminder of how overpriced and underwhelming the DC food scene is. Jersey Mikes for a cheap family dinner? Prepared food from a supermarket? Most cities would have a plethora of diners and coffee shops to choose from where a family could easily eat for less than a Ben Franklin.

The prepared food at Whole Foods is not good. Can't speak to Harris Teeter, but I would assume it's not.

Do you know whole foods has this s well for $8? I tried it for the first time last week and was so pleasantly surprised. Got a TON of delicious food!

Another vote for taco Bamba takeout. I have lived in nova for 6+ years and somehow didn't discover it until a few months ago. Totally life changing! I'm addicted!

Love silver diner, esp for kids night (phenomenal programming) but I do not think it is inexpensive.

I think kids eat free at most ihops on week nights if you are into that.

Not sure if this is an option but we find takeout to be much more cost effective. Lebanese taverna market instead of the restaurant saves us a ton. Same with Peruvian chicken. Then we can add our own rice and salad or fruits. Plus, I think on some level we eat less, because we know we get to keep the leftovers without having to beg for a container.

For going out, silver diner is our go to spot. You can eat decently healthy and it is not too expensive.

Yes but it's only the takeout style one which isn't that good in my opinion. You have to go to Clarendon for the actual restaurant.

My kids at that age would be happy with rice and beans and some tortillas at most Mexican restaurants--of course, that was in a part of the country where good Mexican food is available everywhere...
