A 64 year old man who in the process of firing a .22 owned by his 12 year old daughter points a gun at his 14 year old son standing behind him and kills him. And background checks and required licensing and required training would allow the Detroit man to have his gun and protect his family while denying the Florida man his gun...also protecting his family. Win-win. We have to register to exercise our constitutional right to vote. And we have to be licensed and trained to operate a car, which as is regularly pointed out by gun advocates is as dangerous as a gun. What's your point? Nobody is trying to take away yoyr right to keep a gun in your house for self defense. We simply want proper background checks, registration and training. Since this man was successful, I have a feeling he would have passed a test with flying colors. Therefore, reasonable gun laws would not have prevented him from saving the day. However, it might have prevented the intruder from getting a gun.

Not enough. I have no idea how to properly operate a gun. But I could drive down the street to my local gun shop and easily purchase a gun. My Great State would even allow me to cc that gun without a permit. But if I take my kayak out without wearing a safety vest, I would quickly be issued a ticket by the park police.

There is something about this story that doesn't add up. Seems odd that they took the couple to the basement. And he just so happens to store his Unsecured Self-Defense Gun in the basement? Or does he have Unsecured Self-defense Guns stashed all over his house? If so, I hope he never has children or mentally unstable people in his home. And he's damn lucky that his stash was not used against him.

OP, why is it that you gun enthusiasts feel the need to point out every good guy with a gun scenario, but you never even acknowledge the 91 deaths per day in this country by gun violence?
