To the OP, it really might have nothing to do with you. And I mean that in a comforting way...

I didn't ask my wife to marry me until my sister had a few (rather large, I might add) gin and tonics with my future bride. Big Sis read me the riot act, starting with "What is your problem???")

Of course, Big Sis was right. My wife and I are right for each other. And "my problem" was old crap my wife didn't cause.

My wife and sister still like to drink together on holidays. They chest-bump when the Dallas Cowboys score. It's very disturbing...

Here is a guarnteed way to calculate when your boyfriend will propose: think of the last conceivable date you would possibly think it would be ok for him to propose before you completely flip out. He will propose two weeks after that date.

Also +1 on your friend is an asshole.

Really OP, he may be waiting for a special time to propose. E.g. during a vacation or over the holidays. Chill out, if he has the ring its going to happen. Shame on your friend for spilling the beans. So all you have to do is stop the crazy.

OP here- I'm 28. Yes, I know my best friend telling me was shitty on her part and she truly did just slip up as it came up in a convo. The whole "living in sin" thing is honesty just BS. I'm not religious at all and neither is he so we honestly wouldn't care about that at all. Glad to hear that others then boyfriends waited awhile too after having the ring. I didn't know that was "common" as two of my best friends now husbands proposed to them within weeks of getting the ring.
