With private adoption where you match directly, you can have a lot of control, but generally those are very open adoptions. We had a lot of control and basically handled everything with the birthparents. We have a very open adoption. It would be difficult to have a closed adoption or a semi-open and handle things yourself. It does add another layer when you do an agency, which can be good and bad.

As someone who has placed a child for adoption, which was a beautiful, bittersweet experience, its a wonderful option. Please, OP, don't give up hope.


I'm an adoptive mom, PP. We're not all like the people in this post. I'm disgusted by what I'm reading, too. Hugs.

As an adoptive mom, I would tell you to try both BUT

Also need tore alone that adoption and your need for control do not match

Adoption is a leap of faith and you don't have control

If not ready for that, I'd say you aren't ready for adoption
