I vote for AirBNB too. There's actually a company called Kid and Coe that's like Airbnb but all the properties are kid-friendly. You should check it out.

And have your child wakeup when they deliver it? It's nicer to grab a bottle of wine from a shop and enjoy it in a separate room or belcony while your child sleeps. My favorite benefit of the Airbnb route.

In Lisbon we actually stayed in an apartment suite hotel - had all the amenities of both having your own apartment and the concierge for advice. Also in Lisbon food shopping is really easy - most every where we went we could find someone who spoke the language. We have also stayed in apartments with no concierge and honestly if you have a map, read guide books and feel like exploring you can figure out a lot on your own. Most of the times I've stayed in hotels in non-englishing speaking areas we have never even asked a question. I think I would recommend what you are most comfortable with, however with a toddler I really loved having a kitchenette for snacks, foods, simple dinners and having that extra space for the toddler to nap while you do something else is priceless. We were in Amsterdam for work with a toddler - one bedroom hotel. Kid went to bed and my DH and I took turns sitting on the toilet working on our laptops - the other one went to the lobby. Not ideal. That or we all went to sleep at the same time.
