Speak for yourself. For me, it's the pale whales that need not apply. Dark tanned skin is in. Pasty white is out.

My DH is as preppy as they come and I'm an Indian from India. He's crazy about me and 2.5 years younger and stone days I don't get it either!

Only the really hot Indian women. You know the difference.

I agree with the cautions on serious relationships.

I dated an Indian woman once. Her father encouraged it, indicating that lighter completed kids would be well received.

Wow, I'm surprised by some of this advice. I'm Indian-American and my DH is a total, preppy HYC guy. He's very much a throwback to the 1940s aesthetic. I grew up in very preppy New England myself and completely immersed in preppy culture - Fair Isle sweaters in the 1970s/80s. We are boomers though so that might be a difference here.

Problem in-laws are universal and not delegated to one group of people. (Just look at the Family Relationships forum on this site).

I'm the pp that wrote about the 'preppy in laws'. I know that any color/ethnicity in-laws could be a problem, what I would not want to deal with is the in laws that find my "Indian-ness" inferior to their WASPy world. Some of the parents of the guys I dated were like this. One couple was not, they were delightful (unfortunately their son was not!). So I know it's not ALL preppy parents, but it was most of them in just my experience.

I can deal with in laws that think I can't cook or are too nosy, call too much, opinionated, etc. To me that's normal, run of the mill annoying crap. Having in-laws that find my culture inferior or weird and don't look at me as a normal person but as some exotic creature is not something I could handle not just because of my own feelings but because that thinking would seep down to my eventual kids.

BUT, that's just my two cents. I know of at least one white preppy/Indian married couple and it's worked out for them.

+1 Mine were pretty mild, as things go, but there were many problems. I quietly expressed how appalled I was at how MIL treated me, and she mellowed out. The Indian culture is hard on women, so it's understandable that the home culture affected her expectations.

Mmmm, no. My parents are are in laws and they are perfect. FYI my white in laws are wonderful too. Have another friend whos Indian parents are wonderful and really close to her DH.

All these Indians I speak of are very assimilated, if that matters.

If you think your own parents are perfect in laws, then I am even more certain they are not. . .

Wear plastic frame glasses and dye your hair a funky color. I'm not sure if you'd attracted "preppy" guys, buy you'd attract liberal, high socioeconomic status whites, which seems to be your intent.

If you super stereotypical, controlling indian parents, most white guys are going to run for the hills once they find out.
