So unless you get a visa thru a job, (finance or academia are good) or marry a uk citizen, the only way to go would be as a tourist.
You can also apply to attend university there, as I did and see how you like living there for extended periods of time.

To get a uk residency it's a big procedure. My husband is British and we have dealt with us and uk visa issues, it's not fun.
No. I'm nowhere near middle aged
That's why I asked about what the process would be![]()

You'll need a hell of a lot more than that, Ducky.![]()
She needs a valid work visa if she plans to work while there.
This. You will eventually get caught, and kicked out with a possible travel ban on traveling back into the UK. They keep track of visitors, even US passport holders, and how many days you have been in the UK and the break in between, so don't think you can enter Jan 1, stay for 6 months, leave for a week, come back for another 6 months, leave again for a week, come back to the UK for 6 months, etc. they will quickly know you are effectively living in the UK. consult a lawyer.
So what do I have to do to live there? How do I go about getting a work visa?
Anonymous wrote:here, go to the uk immigration website and find out. Hint: it's really hard and you probably won't be able to do it. The best you can do is enter as a tourist for six months but to do that you'll need to prove you can support yourself as a tourist and have proof of exit (plane or train ticket.) There's not a country in the world where you can just pick up and move there. Some countries are more likely to turn a blind eye, like central and South America but you're still better off following the rules. If you want a change of scenery move to a different part of the USA or sell everything, get a tefl and teach English overseas for a year.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:doodlebug wrote:then explain what she needs to do if you know so much.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Just go for six months on a tourist visa and work from wherever you're staying.
