I agree. Make a call. People move. Things change. If you see a school you like, make a call. Hear it from the school, not DCUM.

Sheridan is full, with a waitlist.

For 4th grade? It never hurts to make a call...I know that Burke would fit for the 7th grader who wants a place to stay thru high school.

Why do people always unthinkingly suggest all the non-K-12s every single time this question comes up? My sense is that they don't know any better.

They're not all in the same bucket.

A friend got into Maret in August one summer. This is DC - people move for work ALL THE TIME.

Take a look at WES for your 4th and 7th grader. The middle school is awesome - unfortunately does not go to high school, but it's a very welcoming place and is right over the DC line in Bethesda. Kids transferred in middle school and did great. The fourth grade class is welcoming several new families and the new 4th grade teacher was the Fairfax County Public School new teacher of the year several years back.

I would look at Lowell for both. Applying the 7th grader out with everyone else applying for 9th is doable. It allows you to think more about right next step before committing to a school through 12th. I don't know if there is room or not but it is possible.

Not sure if you are against public, but if you are interested in public, focus your housing search in close in Montgomery County (Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac), North Arlington, or parts of Fairfax County (McClean if you want closer to the city) and you'll have good public options.

The K-8s already mentioned are a great start. A private that is K-12 and has not been mentioned is Potomac. It is expensive and likely hard to get two slots, but again worth calling. 4th is an expansion year and there may be movement over the summer.

For the 7th grader Burke ma be a good fit. I know that the 7th grade is pretty small so they may have room. Then I'd look at either Lowell or Sheridan for the 4th grader, proximity and similarity to Burke are good.
