Your SF stereotype is 20 years old: it's now Frat boy brogrammers who come to make a quick buck and party. Used to go to wall street but easier money in silicon valley. None of them of could code their way out of a paper bag, so they aren't really nerdy tech anymore.

New Jersey isn't a city.

I'll just go with where I've lived.

DC: A tale of two cities - on one side you have ambitious people, MC/UMC in origin, who "come to do good and stay to do well." Frequently become insufferable assholes once have been in the city for a while (see: DCUM). On the other side you have a fiercely proud group of natives that's getting aggressively pushed out by gentrifiers. Native here, and I've seen it all.

Raleigh: Hyper-normative "liberal" southern city - southern in the worst way, but at least it is a college town. Boring AF.

Austin: A rollicking good time of a city aka The People's Republic of Austin - an oasis of progressive thinking and liberal policies smack in the heart of a truly backwards state. Fun if you're a drinker and are younger than ~27.

San Diego: the most segregated city I've lived in, filled both with abject poverty - experienced mostly by people of color - and hoardes of truly clueless, rich skinny blondes. Beautiful weather and beaches, horrible traffic. Expensive.

Berkeley, CA:

Liberal-minded tree huggers who detest plastic bags.
Grassroots organizations all over.

Homosexuality + open market for purchasing weed in place.

No Bible Belt living there.
