Umm, yes, she can. You wouldn't, and I wouldn't, but parents can and do slap their children.

And they can and do end up with CPS involved in their lives for a long time. Believe me, I work with CPS.

I don't know that I would have been able to stop myself from saying something directly to her and intervening to help that little girl. What does she do when she isn't in public?

Intervening to help? How, by taking her home with you?

"Hope they get help" on the way to your pedicure is what makes this area bleak. Help! Help your fellow human.

Ummm you all are nuts. Screaming isn't illegal. We have all had bad days and screamed, I'm sure. Slapping a toddler in the face, though? What the actual fuck? That warrants a call to the police/CPS FOR SURE. Are you people all serial child abusers or something?

I also doubt it was a grandma. I've never seen a grandma with a baby in a baby carrier. The mom could have some sort of postpartum issues going on. Not that it excuses it but hopefully she will get the help she needs.

Okay and at home she might beat her. This is ridiculous.

PP. I'm not a do-nothing by nature. I've called police about noise, domestic abuse, animal abuse. If the rest of us would, maybe DC would be a little nicer.

What should OP have done? What would you do, if you saw this? Nothing, same as the rest of us. Or post about it on DCUM, wringing your hands.

Interesting that you assume it was a grandmother. Most likely it was mom.

No kidding. No wonder so many people get away with abusing kids in this area.
