Why do we tend to respond to Hitler like rhetoric from Trump/(other hate mongers) when the blame is not directed to our own religion or ethnicity? When would we wake up?

Every time I see those stickers one word pops into my head: STUPID.

Why are you surprised? The avg human by the very definition cant understand complex issues. But internet gives them the power to display their avg intelligence to the globe and feel they are smart coz they vented out their opinion. Thats the Achilles heels of democracy. The avg person with avg IQ but an INFLATED self opinion is going to elect. But the saving grace is that institutions wont let the republic come down easily despite the damage one bad president can cause.

I'm not surprised. Just dismayed that modern technology gives the proudly ignorant and stupid outsized voice and power.

Yes well, the good/smart have been outvoted before, and it could happen again. Human history is full of stories of the ignorant and terrible overtaking the good/smart. No wonder anxiety is epidemic. . .if you have a brain and can think the world is a terrifying and depressing place a good part of the time.

7/129 is .05, or 5%. Big difference between that and .05% (which is closer to 0 than 5%).

I am really sorry for my miscalculation... ashamed being an engineer and doing this mistake. Can you focus on the gist though? 95% of the shooters are non-muslims. What do we do about that?

Apples and oranges. The majority of Christian or Jewish violence also occurs outside the US, but we don't use those statistics to denounce American Christians or American Jews, do we?

The point is that there are a lot more radical religious people and entities outside the US. INS is very good at keeping out the majority of those religious fanatics that would do harm. Here in the territorial US, we are far more in danger of terrorism based on other factors than religion. I agree that we need to find ways to discourage violence and domestic terrorism, but banning a huge portion of our immigrants simply based on race, is not warranted from the data, only from bigoted gut instincts that "they" are not like "us".

The numbers do not tell us what your bigoted gut instinct tells us.

I am glad to hear saner voices prevail in this country. Maybe we wont be doomed by bluster after all.

That still means 95 percent aren't committed by Muslims. Imagine if Sandy Hook had been committed by a Muslim. But, because the perpetrator was Christian, religion didn't come into play. I really don't think we should demonize all Muslims because of this. We can still talk about the factions within the religion that are promoting violence without condemning the entire religion. Because we are a Christian country, for the most part, we are able to not judge all Christians when anti abortion activist go on a rampage and kill people because of their misplaced belief that their Christian faith requires them to do this to protect the inborn child. I can guarantee you that the majority of Muslims hate ISIS as much as we do. The largest number of people killed and abused by ISIS are Muslim civilians. They suffer everyday, just as the victims and families in Orlando are suffering. Let's not condemn them because of the very vocal extremists who happen to share their religion and have hijacked it to justify committing atrocities.
