Can't you simply say, "those are not my preference or style" or "I don't care for those?" I certainly hope you aren't teaching your own kids to judge girls and refer to them or their clothing as slutty. I don't even have girls but my boys know that I don't care if a woman is walking around in short shorts and a bra, you don't assume anything about the woman, you don't refer to her as a slut and if you don't like it then don't look. I just got these at Anthropologie:
4'' inseam/3 colors - http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-shorts-casual/38679403.jsp#/
4'' or shorter if you roll them -

Slutty
ITA. My 8-year old didn't want to wear a certain pair of shorts (which were not that short, btw) to school recently because one of her classmates talks down to girls who wear short shorts. Clearly this is learned behavior. If parents don't want to let their girls wear short shorts, fine. But don't tell your kids that girls who wear them are sluts to make it easier for you to enforce your house rules. Instead, explain to your daughter why you don't want her wearing those shorts, which may make you reflect on your biased/stereotypical attitude.
Seriously. Just don't use that term to describe clothing choices (or people, or anything for that matter). It is based on a sexist double-standard and does nothing but reinforce the idea that women who express their sexuality do not deserve respect.
