I don't know either of your references and kids surely wouldn't.

Some references fade... i am the margaret from above and I got called "hot lips" because of MASH but that should not be an issue anymore.

Yeah, high school boys in 15 years or so are really going to know the name of Dagwood's dog or a movie made in 1989.

Daisy Ridley is the actress who plays Rey in the new Star Wars.

I introduce myself as Margaret... I go by Marg (family), Margie (family), Madge (HS friends), Margarita (neighbor), Marguerite (neighbor) , Margery (coworker),Rita (college boyfriend) and .... thanks to Pee Wee Herman... Large Marge (HS)

I like that i have different nicknames that were organically created... my advice, just embrace it.

I actually don't associate Molly with dogs. And that's not a big deal either. In my family our dogs are named Emma, Abby, Sophie and Sadie, which lots of people are naming their babies. I think Molly is sweet.

When you are a little girl kids are mean...'hey i know a dog named Molly" "my dogs named Molly" etc

I was a Molly and this was never an issue.

Consider initials too. If the middle or last name is an O, she could be Mo/Moe, which is cute.

We almost had a Margaret, named for my beloved grandmother. We still hadn't decided if we would call her Daisy, Greta, or Maggie when we had a boy instead. At the time, I was leaning heavily towards Daisy, while DH preferred Greta, but now (12 years later) I think Maggie would have been the way to go.

Rita
Ari
Mars
?

You'll come up with something. I have a tendency to call my daughter Lou (or Lou Lou), which isn't at all her name.
