I'm sloppy with sunblock and dh still loves me. I am so fortunate!!

Unconditional love is self explanatory. It's love that isn't predicated on anything the other person can do or say.

My kid could do virtually anything, including murder, and I would still love her. It would be hard but I'd love her. I can't think of anything she could do and say in her life to make me not love her.

I love DH a whole helluva lot but if he cheated on me I could envision not loving him anymore.

So my love for dh is conditioned on him being a good partner. My kid could turn out to be a horrible person but it wouldn't matter.

"unconditional love" means build a trust where you can tell me anything and I won't get mad, but I will be fair.

If "unconditional love" means do whatever and I'll always think you're great and be here for you, forget it. I'm not a sucker.

To me, unconditional love means recognizing and honoring the person you're with as another divine soul that is worth the same amount as your own divine soul.

That means even if they are mean and rude, you could still love them and care about their soul. That does not mean you have to stick around and let them degrade you. There is nothing wrong with saying "I honor myself and I refuse to let you treat me this way. I love you for your soul, but these actions are unacceptable." This is as opposed to saying "You're a mean and horrible person and I hate you." So I guess to me in unconditional love you say "I love you, but you're being a jerk" and conditional love is "I used to love you, but you are a jerk."

Rinse and repeat for all other human traits.

I like this definition of unconditional love. But not sure I would cover up my husband's murder. Maybe I would, depends on circumstances maybe.
