My DS's birthday was yesterday. Most of his friends are out of town this weekend. We're having his friends over for a party with games, cake, candles, ice cream and a cupcake to take home. Are you telling me this can't be called a birthday party because it's not actually his birthday?

I think it's time for OP and her DH to create some of their own family traditions....skip the trip to the ILs.

Our families are relatively inflexible too. But, I have to say, I've never been sorry I sucked it up and went to the family event despite the inconvenience.

Where do they live? I vote D. It's one weekend/party. I wouldn't schlep a new baby in holiday traffic for that.
