I would offer a monetary reward to encourage the return of your previous kitty if someone perhaps stole him.

Please please keep us updated OP on this.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for a safe & speedy reunion.

I heard that if you put out their litter, it's a scent they recognize and they'll come home.

OP Look on the Internet for ways to deal with your indoor cat lost outdoors. Based on this we spread some litter around the perimeter of our yard and areas where we thought our cat might have gone. They usually do not go far, but they panic. Our other cat, who is indoor/ outdoor went down into some deep woods near our house and brought our lost cat back after 4 days. Lost kitty was not hurt, he was hysterical for awhile, but he was ok in a few hours. We called our lost kitty during the evening after dark and he came to us. But I had seen our other cat go into the woods that morning where he never goes ordinarily (too wild, too many wild animals) GL.

By the way - what does your cat look like and what neighborhood is this?

If you don't already, hit your cat with some flea and tick medicine when he comes back, even if he's supposed to be an indoor cat.

Yeah, odds are he isn't scared but instead is having a grand time d oeriencing the out of doors.

Also, I'd look very close to home - I called and called for one of mine and looked everywhere and there he was just hiding under our own shed.
He's a dufous.

A friend's cat came home after more than two months last year. I have to be honest that I thought they were being ridiculous still holding out hope.

Also check indoor spaces, especially places you go only rarely. We once accidentally closed our cat in the attic for days, and never heard him. He was fine, but what if we hadn't opened the trapdoor again for weeks? All of our cats who have ever gone temporarily missing outdoors have returned, except for one very old, sick fellow who I think chose to leave home to die. A young cat is very likely just fine and somewhere nearby.

OP here. It's so great to hear so many stories with a happy ending. We have a credible tip that he was spotted about 5 houses away and we now feel more confident he's close by. We have many wonderful neighbors who are checking their yards and promising to hold him if they find him. I feel so much better!

Ours came home after about 10 days. He had been hit by a car and I guess he was gathering strength to come home. Poor thing had a broken leg and was pretty badly injured on his head. But all was good. He lived to be 20 years old

Mine was gone for 8 days and came back Alive. Cats only go 5 houses away as crow flies. Give them fliers

I lost my indoor car right before a trip. My DH was around and looked for the cat. He finally found her in a drain. When he went to get her she bit him. He had to wait a bit more before he was able to get her out of the drain. I agree with other posters to look in trees and also look in small spaces.

Yes; ran off suddenly, and came back. We did the following --

- Chip, posters, inquiries, etc.

- I took my dirty laundry, that smelled of us, and put it under a protected area right near our door. That's exactly where he went.

We lost ours during a move and kept going back looking for him. Finally found him two and a half months later.

OP, they usually don't go far. He's probably under your neighbor's shed or something similar.

I used to live in a national forest and my indoor cat got out.. He came back two weeks to the day after he went missing. I had resigned myself to him being eagle or coyote food but in be came. I think he had been trapped in someone's wood shed or weekend cabin or something. When they get scared they tend to freeze in place so you need to wait for them to unfreeze. Also ask neighbors to check sheds and what not.
