What is wrong with you. Asians can be Americans, too. The color of skin does not make them foreigners. I posted this upthread. I've posted before on over threads. I simply cannot believe how often people on DCUM rail against Asian-Americans as foreigners. It is getting so discouraging to think that is what people think here.

Me too. And I say this an underrepresented minority parent, so I'm not just some butthurt white person. I am uncomfortable with the fact that my children, whose parents are lawyers and make lots of money and can afford to live in a great school district, have kids play sports/do lessons/travel/be tutored/etc. and basically have every advantage that comes along with being affluent in the US get a boost in college admissions as opposed to say, the poor rural white kid, simply because of their ethnicity.

I am all for SES based affirmative action, but do not agree with race-based.

Granted my oldest is only entering 9th grade next year, so I have some time to ponder this.

1. Some Asian Americans groups do not agree with getting rid of affirmative action as some Asian groups benefit from affirmative action.

2. Colleges in this country are mostly holistic admissions and consider many factors other than grades and test scores. Factors other than race. Essays, interviews and non-cookie-cutter ECs.

3. This thread is about Asians challenging admissions criteria. Again, this often turns into rants against URMs.

It is because studies show without explicit racial positive bias, URMs would be virtually shut out at top school. Too many poor whites and Asians that are stronger students than even mc/umc URMs.

That's something that I think hurts everyone. I guess the question is, at what point do we assess a person on their merit rather than on the color of their skin, whether for good or bad?

If you are talking about SES, low income vs. upper income, I might agree with you. But, I don't see how giving an upper income Black/Hispanic student extra point just for the color of their skin when there are poor white/Asian students who don't have a fraction of the advantages the wealthy Black/Hispanic student has as being fair.

I don't think most Asians would object to SES-based A Action admission policy. It's the skin color based admission policy that gives me heartburn.
