A man isn't going to go to prison for defending himself. At most, he is going to get a misdemeanor charge. If he pushes self-defense as an affirmative defenses to the charges, he probably isn't even going to take a conviction on it.
Teach your girls not to hit and there is no problem.

30 years ago, in my very middle class, Midwestern Catholic school, the 4th grade girls thought it was really funny to kick the boys in the balls. I did it to my brother. My parents were furious. It was explained to me very carefully that I would never do that to my brother or another boy again or I would suffer the most severe consequences.
I have no doubt that this has been known to happen. I just think it's strange it's reached epidemic proportions for not only op's sons but also his friends. school apparently unable to stop the relentless onslaught of little girl violence.
It sounds exactly like my class. A group of girls running rampant and acting out violently. My school didn't do much about it, either. They frequently don't see the problem when the violence is coming from girls.

I have boys and girls. I have never seen this behavior not heard of it complained about. The rule in our house is you don't hit anybody. Tell them to tell a teacher.

It is a huge problem.. it is how the cycle of violence begins. Eventually a man will hit her and she will believe she deserves it for hitting him first. She needs to learn to control her urge to hit.

There are girls who go way overboard provoking boys verbally and physically to tempt them to retaliate. I don't know if the boys ever do, I know that mine never have, but I do know it's some bullshit.

OP, I was friends for a while with a crazy girl who came after my best friend with a knife at a birthday party and would frequently assault people, friends, family, strangers. She put her brother in the hospital, in high school.
Your boys do not need to get involved with crazy people, boys or girls. If the school cannot help, then they should just keep their distance. Nothing good comes from getting involved with people like that.
