The origin story for this name makes me like it for your DD! Also, no one her age will have the Seinfeld connotation - that's already ancient history at this point and won't be relevant for them. It's really just people in their 30s and 40s now who will think of that.

No more than non-Jews naming their kids Levi or Asher, which are "in" names these days.

Shoshana is a pretty name. I am Jewish and would assume the child to be either Jewish or evangelical Christian. But in this day and age it wouldn't be terribly surprising to find out she was neither. I am Jewish with a non-Jewish name (Katherine) and it has not been a problem. I get some questioning looks at synagogue and that's about it. I imagine it would work similarly in reverse for a non-Jewish child with a Jewish name.

This name is for our daughter who we are adopting. Her birth mother made the suggestion because it works as a combination of my name and hers together. I thought that was very sweet.

Our four other children all have three syllable names also. Here they are in case it helps with suggestions: Benjamin, Nathaniel, Miranda & Gwendolyn.

Also I really doubt sharing a name with a 15minute of famer from the 90s is going to be an issue.


Her name is Jessica. Op, love the name but would think it was a bit weird to choose this name if you're not Jewish. But whatever. Still a really pretty name

I think it's a pretty name. I'm Jewish, and I would definitely assume she was Jewish. Even if she'll have a clearly non-Jewish last name, I would probably assume mom was Jewish . Not sure if those connotations would be as strong for non-Jews who hear her name.
