If she's above toddler-age, I would look into getting her OT to increase her trunk strength.
She is 2.5. has anyone done OT for this type of thing? what does it entail?
It is too late.

Consistency correcting her. I am still doing it and DD is almost 4yo.

It isn't uncommon at 2.5. Just keep correcting her. By around 3-3.5 she should be sitting better.

My daughter was a preemie and has low muscle tone. W sitting was one of the issues she worked on with a PT. The PT played games (exercises) to help her strengthen her core, and encouraged her to try sitting in other positions including a half w (one leg out straight and the other tucked back in the w). She encouraged us not to be overly strict about correcting the w because that would involve interrupting a toddlers play every couple minutes to reposition. The PT that constant interruption was potentially more harmful than the w sitting, and it was better to just focus on helping her build her core strength. She told us that as our daughter got older, if she was still a consistent w sitter, we should consider interventions like sitting on a low block.
