I didn't tell my kids (6 and 8). They told me about the very long "shelter drill" they had at school, but did not ask me about it any further. From what I understand, they basically stayed in their classrooms and went to the bathroom in supervised shifts.

My middle schoolers knew all about it..probably more details than I did. They all have phones.

I told them that someone pulled out a gun and shot people right at a place where we park at least once a week.
Things happen, be careful and be happy to be alive. Above all if someone wants your keys - give them to him, along with anything else you have (phone, wallet, laptop, shopping bags).
If someone wants YOU - fight and struggle.
I have young teens.

Our 7yr was told it was not a drill by her school and they were keeping safe. Her 1st grade teacher told her there was a bad man driving around so the school was locked.
