Yes, they do. Or rather they have done, but I don't think they anticipate many/any openings this year. This year they are taking several new kids at 1st so definitely not a prohibition on taking new kids at K. I'm a Lee parent and not sure what the Lee parent above is talking about. There are about 15 K kids currently, which is more than the previous year and, as planned/expected, I believe.

Yes, but she wants the younger one at Lee, I think. She likes the school and likes Montessori, but it hasn't proved a great fit for her older (she anticipates it being a great fit for her younger).

She should talk to Lee, but I can't imagine they will boot her younger one out once she is enrolled. Pre-enrollment, yes.

It may be out of Lee's hands. Could be baked into the MySchoolDC system.

Losing the preference is how it is supposed to work.

Elementary will be very different. No plans have been made about who is in the new class yet either. Have you met with them? Done an observation?

Not after the younger is enrolled, I don't think. Definitely ask lee the school first though

Lee is a great school, and families who have left for greener pastures have sometimes (not always) regretted it. So keeping one in both seems as good way plan for a year. Whether it is sustainable long term, I don't know.

This is absolutely what I would do. Older goes to CMI and younger to Lee. Then in a year reevaluate. The commute between the two schools shouldn't be crazy and perhaps you can share pick-ups and drop offs with other parents It will likely feel hard to stretch yourself between two schools with close-knit communities. Agree it woudl be great to have your foot in the door of CMI middle school if Lee's doesn't pan out. You can have your little one at Lee through 6th and then move her to CMI if CMI is a good fit for older and Lee for younger. I am with you on believing that Montessori can be an amazing thing and would prioritize that IF it was a good fit for my child.

Thank you everyone for your input- i realize this is a pretty great problem to have, So i think we will keep the younger one at Lee b/c i think will be a good fit for her and enroll the older one at CMI and see which school fits her needs better and as pp said, we can do two drop offs for a year and just see which school works out better. sometime DCUM gets to be too much but tonight y'all really came through so thanks.
