I agree with Fontera Grill. It is excellent. I don't really care for the Al's beef. I go frequently to visit family and I always insist on at least one trip to Greek town for the best greek food I have ever had.

Given that you are not going to get into one of the really hot places, I'll recommend Gather in Lincoln Square (across the street from Bistro Campagne, which is also great and was recommended earlier). Gather is a wonderful farm to table restaurant and we walked in on a Friday night and had an amazing meal sitting at the counter along the kitchen. Also Lincoln Square is a great neighborhood so you can walk around before or after (and ideally catch a show at the Old Town School of Folk Music, but that is a lot to coordinate) and get a sense of a "real" chicago neighborhood. have fun!

Fronterra Grill!!! Rick Bayless is a Mexican food genius. They don't take reservations. Go at 5 to 5:15 and you won't have to wait long. Otherwise, you will wait 1-1.5 hrs in the bar--they have fabulous drinks. Or go next door to Topolo Bompo. Same ownership, similar menu, and they take reservations. If you can't make it to one of these, try Xoco for Torta sandwiches around the corner, or at the very least try to find them at O'Hare. They are in some terminals.
