I don't hate the name but I do hate this Duggar-esque "siblings must have matching initials" nonsense.

I like it! I know a Rigel who is a grown woman but I think the name works fine for a boy as well.

What Biblical name that starts with an R...? I don't know of any common/well-known boy names of Biblical origin that start with R. I'm not a theologian, but I really can't think of any! Maybe if you shared that name it would help us make recommendations for your second. I had two boys and also struggled with a name for the younger one, so no shame!

How about Asher? Might be a touch common but still isn't in the top 20. Solid OT/Hebrew name.

Or Josiah?

I have a cousin named Rigel. I must say, we are European and the name sounds lovely in our language (pronounced Reeghel with soft l at end). Don't like the way Americans pronounce it, plus most take a guess at pronouncing it so you hear multiple variations.

I knew a Rigel growing up!!! his father was a professor of Astronomy and his brothers were Deneb and Antares.

I always thought it was very cool.

I'm not a fan of siblings having the same first initial. More important in this case, it's odd to give the first a Biblical name with family meaning and then give the second a random name with an unclear (even to you!) pronunciation. Unlike your first child's name, Rigel is weird and difficult to pronounce.
