My DC had him as a co-teacher in the 3 YO class. I was not upset to see him leave.

This whole inspection thing is unreliable. I am currently looking for daycare in Montgomery County and I see many home daycares and even centers that have not been inspected. If they have, they have not been updated online. I tried to call the early childhood education (whatever the dept name is) to ask about this and couldn't get hold of anyone.

This is crap. Their inspector should be investigated. I see my licensing specialist every year. No complaints.

They opened less than a year ago (7/31/15), per the updated WaPo article. Next inspection wasn't due until 7/31/16. So unless someone filed a complaint or they were chosen at random for an inspection and the inspector just didn't do their job, they play no role in this.

He was our teacher as well 3 years ago. I was shaking reading the article.

That was my thought, too. But then the same thing could be said about the provider who has a duty to report. How could they not notice, either?

Same here. He seemed so normal. I am in shock and can't stop reading the stories. Poor, sweet baby and poor parents.

ugh, i cant bring myself to read the story. I know there are good home based daycares, but please moms, do your due diligence. I read a post recently where a mom said a home daycare provider wouldnt provide references, and she asked if that was a red flag. Of course it is! And yet a bunch of moms chimed in and said, no it's fine! Back in the 70s, my mom had a job interview or something and sent me to a home based day care for the day. I distinctly remember the teacher giving us all tyelnol and putting us to "nap." I must have been 4. My mom never sent me there again.

thousands of home daycares have had no issues. My DC went to one for 3.5 yrs. There have been cases of child abuse at daycare centers, too, not just home based ones.

But, I can see why people would be nervous about it; kind of like when school shootings happen, every parent thinks about it happening at their kids' schools.
