This is how I feel about Legos!

My 6 yr old boy loves anything Starwars (figures, stickers, books, art sets...). Likes cards and games also. Kids chess and Uno top the list.

At this age (6-7 years), the boy becomes a very interesting and useful to communicate with his father: relax together, to work or to engage in a hobby. You can arrange a holiday of sport: go to the match, or the first lesson in karate, for the teacher-man was an inspiration for him.

Battleship, mastermind, trouble, Four Across. On sale at Target for $10.

If you want to spend more any of the Think Fun games are always a big hit with my 6 year olds. Many of them are logic games that kids play by themselves. Gravity Maze, Lazer Maze, Rush Hour, Tipover.

And I second the stomp rockets idea.

3 different star wars lego sets!!! (I have 6 year old twins - similar but with a twist is good) -- or baseball/sports gear.

They liked stomp rockets but the novelty wore off quickly & have only used a few times since the initial opening.

Board games can be fun too - but unless it's a real board game family, most don't get used very much either.

OP. On my way to the store, thanks for the ideas!

Although I know my son would love a fart noise maker, and I'd tolerate it...I'm not sure I could do that to another parent except for very close friends.
