I'm a different poster - but I just have to throw this in. We joined a new church within the past year and for the first time in our married lives, we're both fully on board. We love the church, it's mission, the pastor, the familes, etc. We both felt God lead us to tithing, even though I write the checks monthly rather than weekly, because it was still a little hard to say goodbye to that much money. My point is, that we both wanted to tithe here, but it is still a mental struggle sometimes. In any case, though, like the PP, we have been blessed financially over and over since we have joined this church. Is it the tithing? Being more connected to the church? Luck? I have no idea. I do like to believe that as we entrust God with our finances, he rewards us and makes sure we are provided for. Like PP, we have received many financial rewards such as several thousand dollar credit card refund, unexpected checks and pay raises. I'm not saying oh, go tithe and be rewarded - but rather, trust God and you will be taken care of.

I don't think it's legalism. We're not doing it because we're supposed to; we're doing this because we want to. Fine - I guess the 10% is a # defined by the old laws, but the giving, we really just want the church to use our money (provided by God, so really God's money) to do God's work.

So God blesses you, but those starving people in the Congo, they just aren't getting with the program, is that it?
IF the starving gave 10% of their meager possessions, God would bless tem too. But are they doing that? Doubtful -- they're just scrounging around for food instead

Research church history. Churches did not have a doctrine of tithing, and it is a new phenome among American churches that emerged in the last 2 centuries. Catholics ask for 1%, the orthodox church does not set an amount.

You are not supposed to give your tithes to the church, but to a Levite priest, and in the form of grain harvested from your field. You cannot even donate a cow unless you already have 10 cows.
The church is supposed to be funded by men, as it is being run by men. Women are to be silent in a congregation.
