We have a Jeep Cherokee 2015. I love it! I haven't had any issues with mine (bought in 2014). We bought the top level model - love all the features they offer and it's very comfortable to drive.

I've had them contact me with recalls. I've just taken it in to the dealer, they fix all the recall issues (mostly software stuff) . It's no big deal.

Frankly with all that's going on with Tesla, mini coopers, GM vehicles and Volkswagen...current Jeep models don't seem to have any more problems than others.

We looked at the regular non-venti Cherokee, really liked it, but...Jeep quality stunk before it was bought by the Italians, who have decades of experience building crappy cars. Pound for pound it was also quite a bit more expensive than similar, better vehicles. Also, it got worse mileage and had less cargo space. Other than the bigger engine and better 4WD, there was nothing about the Jeep that struck us as must-haves.

We ended up with a Ford Escape, the CRV was close behind but it's horrible AWD was a problem. Liked the Rav4. Also liked the Mazda CX5 a lot but it was a tad more expensive, and mostly because it is very popular and the average lot time is something like 8 days (vs 50 for the Jeep.)

Clearly everyone is different, and this is the best selling category of vehicle, so good luck OP. If you only plan to keep for 3-4 years then the Cherokee is a lot of car, but I would worry about quality and reliability.

We have a '15 Eco Green Cherokee Limited V6 AWD on a lease, love it. No issues, and your bumper to bumper will cover you for years. I would get the V6, with gas prices as low as they are, because that engine has been a Ward's top ten engine in multiple years. We wanted leather (limited) because of dog hair.

Jeep Cherokee was just on a list of cars NOT to buy or the worst cars for 2016 or something. Don't buy one. Huge POS and way overpriced.

OP again, I just read that article someone posted from March 2015. That is gravely concerning. I do have that tow hitch on my car. Sounds like it won't do a damn thing in a serious car accident. I have been rear ended before, but it wasn't at a high speed. The problem is I'm actually not looking to replace the Liberty, I'm looking to replace my husbands very old (2000) Grand Cherokee. So we will be stuck with the Liberty for awhile whether we like it or not.

OP here - well most people on here chimed in about a GRAND Jeep Cherokee, not the "Cherokee" model that I asked about. So that is not apples to apples.

Regarding Jeep in general - I actually have a Jeep Liberty and have had it for 10 years. I've never had any major mechanical issues, and there was only one recall that I remember. So I wouldn't call it a piece of shit. However, I regularly get it checked out and maintain it.

I like the look of the Cherokee, but its not getting stellar reviews, so I may just avoid it altogether. I do like the looks of the Grand Cherokee, but that is above my price point right now.

We are at 108,000 miles and had our ups and downs. Original owner of a Grand Cherokee. Will keep it until it falls apart. Hopefully another two years as we stood in line to put our deposit on the Tesla Model 3.
